Robert Fogell Artistic Statement
I trained as a Sculpture Conservator working on classical and modern stone sculpture in public and private collection around the UK.
Clients, including The British Museum, The V&A Museum London, English Heritage, The National Trust and private clients.
Conserving Ancient and Modern sculpture including interesting artifacts has helped to shape my sculptural approach.
Teacher Training at Warwick University, Northampton College and Leicester University followed. Combining Art Education and my own studio practice has formed a rewarding artistic journey.
My work is concerned with the geometry of sculpture; and attempts to analyse form symmetry, proportion and how they balance together.
Exploring positive and negative mass (space and solid).
The investigation of scientific and artistic dialogue, understanding where, science, mathematics and art merge.
I refine my ideas by making a series of small maquettes. Finally working in bronze, stone, steel and mixed media.
In 2006 I opened the Robert Fogell Art Gallery selling British Modern and Contemporary Art from leading and emerging artists.
I also run specialist art workshops in carving, clay modeling and plaster construction at my studio at Burghley House Stamford.
Art workshops are available for Primary, Secondary and Adult Education through the educational department at Burghley House Stamford.
Conservation and new commissions are welcome.
